Real humped!

Had to pick my jaw off the floor this morning seeing the scoreline of 5-1 to Mallorca yesterday against the mighty Real Madrid! The team that humbled Man Utd at the Bernabeu merely weeks ago were thoroughly whipped to end a 50 game unbeaten run on their own soil. Well perhaps Ronaldo and Zidane and Figo and Roberto Carlos and .... oh hang on Raul wasn't playing... that'll be why!?

I wonder if the 5 goals Mallorca scored were anything like the ones scored by Sheff wed last week. Already relegated, it was a surprise to see them chalk up a 7-2 scoreline. Well you'd think out of 7 goals there'd be some crackers in there. Nope. Maybe one. But they have to be the worst collection of goals I've seen since I had the joy of playing primary school football. I think 6 out of the 7 were as a result of miskicks and blunders.

It was good to see Paolo return in style yesterday leading West Ham to a 1-0 victory and making things very exciting.... Bolton, West Ham or Leeds to be relegated. I'd like to see Bolton stay up just due to the sublime Jay Jay Okocha (so good they named him twice as the saying goes) and well wouldn't it just be funny to see Leeds go down. Not funny for Peter Reid I guess to have managed 2 relegated Premiership sides in one season but just think what would be on the horizon.... administration perhaps? Though I'd guess the sales of Kewell, Viduka, Robinson, etc would help keep them afloat. Oh they'd definitely come straight back up which is more than I can say about the Hammers. Equally I'd expect them to lose big name players - Cole, Kanoute, Bowyer, Defoe and well Di Canio is out of there anyway.

Leeds play Arsenal today and I'm banking on Arsenal to keep things interesting at both ends of the table. The last days 'relegation fixtures' are (assuming Leeds get nothing from today):

Birmingham vs West Ham

Bolton  vs MiddlesBoro

Leeds vs Aston Villa

I wouldn't bet against all 3 teams winning leaving it down to goal difference. Sorry West Ham!

Today my duty as a sofa spud will see me take in the Dundee vs Rangers game. A dress rehearsal for the Scottish cup final will hopefully see Dundee motivated enough to at least take a point and bring Celtic closer to accomplishing 3-in-a-row. Yes, tell all the huns you know, it's gonna be 3-in-a-row! It's at Dens Park where Dundee were cheeky enough to take a point off Celtic last month so that can only be a good thing.

Not one to predict the future but a victory for the Dark Blues today followed by a win for Celtic at Fir Park on Wednesday (that'll be a tough one!) will see the Hoops reclaim the top berth...
